Tea parties, beach days and over socialising!

Forgive me dear reader for I have sinned, it has been 13 days since my last blog post!

Whilst every man and his dog were out living their best life on a farm in Somerset, (Glastonbury), I was making tea themed cocktails in the garden, visiting the beach and running myself ragged attending kids birthday parties.

I watched and read about Glastonbury via the BBC and through my hippie queen muse, Vintage Vix's blog and had a chronic case of FOMO, I'm telling myself this is the year I get tickets for Glastonbury 2024!

So before I utter another word read this gorgeous poem by Myra Schneider:

The Red Dress

My first reaction is: I want it,
can’t wait to squeeze into
a scarlet sheath that promises
breasts round as russet apples,
a waist pinched to a pencil,
hips that know the whole dictionary
of swaying, can’t wait
to saunter down an August street
with every eye upon me.

But the moment I’m zipped in
I can’t breathe and the fabric
hugging my stomach without mercy
pronounces me a frump.
Besides, in the internet café,
where you can phone Tangiers
or Thailand for almost nothing
fourteen pairs of eyes
are absorbed by screens.
No one whistles when I smile
at boxes of tired mangoes
and seedy broccoli heads
outside the Greek superstore.

By now I’m in a fever to undo
the garment and pull it off.
And for all its flaws, for all
that it only boasts one breast,
I’m overjoyed to re-possess
my body. I remember I hate
holding in and shutting away.
What I want is a dress easy
as a plump plum oozing
juice, as a warm afternoon
in late October creeping
its ambers and cinnamons into
leaves, a dress that reassures
there’s no need to pretend,
a dress that’s as capacious
as generosity, a dress that willingly
unbuttons and whispers in the ear:
be alive every minute of your life.

Isn't that lovely and life affirming? I read it today and just had to share.

So anyway. Here's your weekly roundup:

Despite the grey skies in this picture me and the family had a lovely time hosting a garden party for some new friends and their kids. This skirt was a £5 bargain I found in my local Sue Ryder charity shop and the crochet jumper is an old favourite (another find from a charity shop) that I've had years. The clogs are from Vinted back in Jan, as are the sunnies!

I've been giddy excited about getting my vintage tea cups out and having a go at making a non alcoholic punch. This one was a combination of elder flower cordial, pineapple juice, orange juice, ginger beer and water, it was DELICIOUS! The kids loved being able to ladle their own into cardboard vintage tea cups which I found on Amazon. I'll be repurposing these for Marina's 1st birthday next week.

The tea cocktail that went down a storm was my jasmine green tea and bubbly mix. All you need to do is add 200mls boiling water to 5 jasmine green tea bags, and steep for 1 minute (not too long as it gets too bitter). Add 3 tbsp caster sugar (or more depending on your preferences) and then 200ml of cold water. Refrigerate for at least an hour or preferably over night. Serve in vintage tea cups, half green tea and top up with prosecco or champagne. Add a frozen blackberry for decoration and voila!

Panicking that the kids would be bored, I managed to make some cupcakes with my eldest and set up a cake decorating station which I'm definitely going to do for Marina's birthday. The kids had a blast putting as many sprinkles as humanely possible onto the cakes!

What is this strange elixir you are looking at? That my friends is sugar wax. I've had a go making my own wax which I'm eager/terrified to try when I get some waxing papers delivered this week. As it only contains sugar, apple cider vinegar and water its a chemical free alternative to shaving and easily washes off with warm water unlike wax used in salons. Maybe this is TMI, but as a chronic over-sharer I thought I'd show you other ways I'm trying to be eco!

At the time of taking this picture we had strawberries growing in our veg beds. Sine then they've been munched by cheeky garden critters, so no strawberries for us!

As you've already seen from the intro picture I've been low key loving this velvet dress. Although it gives me the witchy aesthetic I adore it's waaaaaay too short when in motion, so I'm selling on my Vinted page.

Continuing the witchy theme I'm also selling this lacey dress which just doesn't suit me.

This hippie dress is already on it's way to it's new home which I'm so happy about. I love it, but since having the girls I just don't feel like it sits on me right, the shape just isn't flattering after breastfeeding!

On Monday me and the family had a spontaneous trip to Hayling Island, which is not too far from Portsmouth. It's a windsurfing mecca and is apparently the place of it's inception. Whilst the water was gorgeous and I had a much anticipated swim, we didn't hang around after out picnic as the wind picked up and we started to get pretty cold!

Beach trips aside, it's been flowers by the river and a jeans kind of week (so far)!

This entire outfit is second hand, the t-shirt is beloved Dolly Parton £7 (I think), jeans are Monki £10 and the trainers are Boden £17 (if I remember)!

Well love bugs, hope you have a lovely rest of the week!

Write you later!
